Let’s spread a little kindness this February

February is traditionally known as the month of love, with Valentine’s Day celebrated on 14 February. It is also a time to reflect on kindness and connection, particularly with those who may appreciate a little extra thought during the winter months. On 17 February, we also recognise Random Acts of Kindness Day, a reminder that small gestures can have a meaningful impact at any age.

At our homes, we believe love and kindness should be shared throughout the year. This February, we’re highlighting a few simple ways families and friends can help spread kindness and stay connected.

Thoughtful Printed Activities

Printed activities are a lovely way to share time and encouragement, whether sent by post or enjoyed together during a visit.

  • Colouring activities remain a popular and relaxing pastime. Valentine or winter-themed colouring sheets can be enjoyed independently or together, and are suitable for all abilities. You can find some free downloads here.
  • Puzzles and games, such as word searches, crosswords, or Sudoku with a seasonal theme, are a great way to keep minds active. These can be tucked into a card with a personal note.
  • Bingo or simple games, played in person or virtually, can be a fun way for families—especially grandchildren—to connect with loved ones.

Sending a Kind Gift

A thoughtful gift doesn’t need to be elaborate. Often, it’s the personal touch that matters most.

  • Home baking, such as heart-shaped biscuits or small cakes, is always appreciated and can be shared with others. These jammy heart drops are a lovely idea.
  • Afternoon teas or meal deliveries from local businesses are a comforting treat and support the local community.
  • Flowers or houseplants can brighten a room and lift spirits. Artificial arrangements are also a practical option and can be enjoyed for a long time.
  • Handwritten letters or cards are especially meaningful and are often treasured.
  • Music, films, or audiobooks—whether on DVD, CD, or digital format—can provide comfort and enjoyment.
  • Memory sharing, such as transferring old photos, videos, or recordings onto a memory stick or digital frame, is a wonderful way to revisit special moments together.
  • Simple Acts of Kindness

Kindness doesn’t always come in a package. Small gestures can make a big difference. How about one or more of the following:

  • A regular phone call or video chat.
  • Sharing a favourite photo or memory.
  • Writing a short note of appreciation.
  • Taking time to listen and chat during a visit.

There are many inspiring ideas available from organisations that promote everyday kindness, all reminding us that even small acts can have a positive impact.

This February, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reach out, connect and share kindness in whatever way feels right. These thoughtful gestures help strengthen bonds and bring warmth during the winter months.

Finally, if you are wondering how you can spread a little kindness, there are lots of lovely ideas on the kindness.org website, who believe that small acts can make a difference and we couldn’t agree more! What will you do this February to spread a little kindness? We’d love to know!
